People who want marijuana legal in Oregon rallied Saturday in Eugene. The Global Cannabis March was organized by the local chapter of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws group, or NORML. About 30 participants marched to the old federal courthouse plaza. Law Shelley Fox-Loken is a retired probation officer, and spokeswoman for “Law Enforcement Against Prohibition.” She says years of working in corrections facilities caused her to doubt the effectiveness of marijuana laws.
Fox-Loken- “And now I can try to make my amends by doing what I can to see that these un-just and harmful laws are repealed and replaced with sensible regulation. The war on drugs has failed. The war on marijuana users though has about to be won by us. We are succeeding!”
Oregon failed to pass legislation last year that would have made marijuana legal for personal use. Colorado and Washington were able to pass laws regulating pot for personal use. Similar Global Cannabis March events were help in Portland and Medford.
